Q: Do you have a version of Advanced Analyzer for any operating system besides Windows?

A: Unfortunately, we do not currently have a Advanced Analyzer version for use with operating systems other than Windows. At this time, we do not plan on creating one that is compatible with Macintosh, IBM OS/2, Linux, or DOS.

Q: Why can't I get past the Proxy page when registering my account? I am using AOL/CompuServe.

A: Some AOL/CompuServe customers get the message "the connection to the server could not be established" when going through the registration wizard after clicking next on the proxy page. This issue is currently being looked into for possible patches to help the compatibility between AOL and Advanced Analyzer. However, many customers are able to bypass this issue by disconnecting from their ISP and reconnecting, or connecting during off-peak hours to get a better connection. If you still cannot connect after doing these steps, please e-mail technical support for assistance.

Q: Can I use Netscape Navigator as my default browser?

A: You can use Netscape Navigator to download the application, and use some functions in Advanced Analyzer. However, we recommend that you have Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, configured to connect to the Internet on your computer, so that you can access other websites within Advanced Analyzer when using the "Research" feature. If you do not have Explorer configured to connect to the Internet, you will need to manually enter your Proxy settings (if you have a Proxy) during registration. In addition, if you attempt to use the "Research" feature of Advanced Analyzer, you will receive error messages because the program is trying to locate and use Explorer. You do not need to make Explorer your default browser, but having it configured will minimize difficulties with the program.

Q: I can't see the 'Next' button on the bottom of the Registration Wizard. How can I get past this screen?

A: Usually, if you cannot see the next button on the Registration Wizard, then you have your Windows settings set too large. Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and double click the Display icon. Then, click on the Settings tab and review your Desktop Area settings. If you have your settings lower than 800 x 600, then your windows will appear too large. Adjust the setting to at least 800 x 600, but we recommend 1024 x 768. In addition, be sure that you have Small Fonts selected, instead of large fonts. After making the changes, you can click 'Ok' and you may be prompted to restart your computer. This should allow you to begin the Registration Wizard again, and see the 'Next' button.

Charting

Q: What do the green, red, yellow and blue arrows mean on the charts?

A: These are associated with the moving averages. The up arrows indicate that the closing price of the stock has crossed up through a moving average. The down arrows indicate that the price crossed down through a moving average. Press the chart option on the left side of the charts to view the chart options dialog. To see which moving average is associated with which set of arrows you can check or uncheck the MA(1) and MA(2) check boxes and press the chart button. Green up and Red down arrows are price crossover indicators for MA(1). Yellow up and Blue down arrows are price crossover indicators for MA(2).

______________________________________________

Q: When I open Advanced Analyzer, no charts are displayed.

A: There are a few things that can cause this. Please select the view | pane portfolio menu option to open the Portfolio pane in the left pane of the application. Open one of the watch lists and double click on any of the stock icons that don’t have a red circle with a slash through it. If the chart doesn’t appear, make sure there is a time period in the period combo box on the left side of the charts. If this doesn’t work make sure you have updated and restarted the computer since you installed.

_______________________________________________

Q: The indicators disappeared from my charts when they are still checked in the chart options dialog box.

A: In the chart options dialog box press the chart button to make sure the latest changes have been applied to the charts. If this doesn’t work, exit the program and re-enter again. The indicators should now appear.

______________________________________________

Q: I opened a chart for a stock that split a few days ago. How do I make the charts adjust for the split?

A: After a stock splits, it is sometimes necessary to right-click on the chart and select reload chart from the popup menu. If the chart doesn’t adjust, please let us know so we can make the correction in our data feed.

Screening / Alerts

Q: My friend sent a screen to me in an e-mail. I double clicked it and was told that it was an invalid program. How to I use the screen?

A: First save the file to your hard drive. Select the Advanced Screening pane and right-click on the screening folder and select import screen from the popup menu. This will open a dialog box that will allow you to browse for the screen you were sent.

_____________________________________________

Q: How do I use Big Screening to create a screen?

A: Please select the Advanced Screening pane and right-click on the globe icon and select "new folder/screen" from the popup menu. From the "new" dialog box, enter the name of the screen, select 'screen' and press 'OK'. From the screening criteria dialog box press the add button.

From the "add to screen" dialog box, you can create your custom screens. You will be presented with a series of combo boxes. To create the screen you will need to enter information in the boxes starting from the top left and working to the bottom right. Click on the arrow on the right side of the boxes to show a list of available options. Press the "+" icon in the list to reveal sub lists. Select the criteria, and then move on to the next box. When the screen is completed press "add to screen" You can repeat this process to create a compound screen. Not all boxes need to include information for the screen criteria to be complete. You don’t need to including information in the boxes after the “and” unless you want to combine screening parameters.

______________________________________________

Q: How do I screen for stocks that are channeling?

A: This can be done by screening for stocks where the Strength-Meter is equal to yellow. When a stock has a Strength-Meter rating of yellow, this means that the stock has remained within a +/- 9% tolerance for the most recent three weeks. This can be used with the MACD and Strength-Meter Analysis to find the channeling periodicity.

______________________________________________

Q: Do screens only look for stocks in my portfolio?

A: The screens screen against all stocks in our data feed (Nasdaq, NYSE and AMEX). You can screen specifically for stocks in your portfolio by using the Alerts.

______________________________________________

Q: Why won’t the alerts show all stocks in my portfolio?

A: The Alerts are supposed to allow you to screen for all stocks in your portfolios. However if you have always worked in the online mode it may only apply alerts to stocks for which you have viewed charts. To fix this you can do an off-line update. This will allow you to download all charts for stocks in your watch list.

______________________________________________

Q: Why doesn’t checking the “all stocks” check box in the Alerts pane allow all stocks to be screened for in the Alerts report?

A: Checking the 'all stocks' box, means that all stocks in the watch lists will be checked for Alerts, not all stocks in the Advanced Analyzer data feed.

______________________________________________

Q: When I screen for stocks I only see about 400 results, and I only see symbols up to those beginning with the letter P. Where are the rest of them?

A: The Technical Indicators pane in the Screening view limits screening results to the first (alphabetically) 400 stocks. If you're getting more than 400 stocks (or if you're not seeing the symbols near the end of the alphabet being represented) you should narrow the scope of your screens.

Portfolio / Holdings

Q: My friend sent a watch list to me in an e-mail. I double clicked it and was told that it was an invalid program. How to I open the watch list?

A: First save the file to your hard drive. Select the "View/Portfolio" menu option to open the portfolio pane in the left pane of the application. Right click on a watch list at the top, and select Import Watch list. This will open a dialog box that will allow you to browse for the watch list you were sent.

________________________________________________

Q: One of the stocks in my holding portfolio has split. How do I adjust the position for the split?

A: You will need to delete the position and make and re-enter it as if the split had already happened. If you purchase the stock before a 2 for 1 split, you will need to re-enter the position as if you purchased twice as many shares as you actually purchased. The holding section of the future release is being designed to smoothly account for stock splits.

_______________________________________________

Q: What is a slide show and how can I view it on my watch lists?

A: A slide show is a group of successive charts of your watch lists, or stocks screened into the Indicators pane. When running a slide show, you see a chart for the first symbol listed in the list, and a few seconds later the next symbol is charted until the end is reached. In addition, you can "Pause" or "Stop" the slideshow on a particular chart you are viewing. In order to view a slide show of your watch list, right click the name of your watch list, and select 'Slide Show'. In addition, you can view a slideshow of stocks screened into the Indicator pane. Just click on one of the symbols, and press CTRL-A on your keyboard to highlight the list. Then, right click in the Indicators Pane and select 'Slide Show' to chart all of the stocks that are highlighted.

Indicators / Quotes

Q: How do I change the columns at the bottom of Advanced Analyzer?

A: You can add columns to the indicators panel using column control. To do this, right-click in the indicators pane at the bottom of Advanced Analyzer, and select Column Control from the popup menu. From the column control dialog box, you can use the ">>" to add selected columns from the columns available to the columns selected lists. You can use the "<<" button to remove them from the list. Q: I can see that there is a bottom window, but it is cut off. How do I open it wider?

or

Q: I run a screen and nothing happens. Where are the results displayed?

A: The indicators pane at the bottom of the application is used for displaying the results of screens and the technical indicators for stocks. This can sometimes be pushed down to where it can’t be seen. To open it up, click on the divider below the charts and above indicators pane and drag up while holding the mouse button down.

________________________________________________

Q: Some stocks have a DTA Bull and a DTA Bear rating at the same time. Is this a bug?

A: It is possible for a stock to have a STA Bull and a STA Bear rating at the same time. The STA (Short Term Average) shows what percentage of the time a stock increases or decreases intra-day more than a given price or percentage over the last month. If a stock has gone up more than 2.5% intra-day from the open 80% of the time over the last month it will have a STA 2.5% Bull rating. Likewise, if it has gone down more than 2.5% intra-day form the open 80% of the time over the last month it will have a STA 2.5% Bear rating. Both of these things can happen with a very volatile stock.

_______________________________________________

Q: What do the different stock symbols represent in the Technical Indicators area?

A: Blue colored symbols represent stocks that have derivative options based on the underlying stock. Green ones do not. However, the Chicago Board of Exchange adds new options all the time so you will find green colored symbols that are actually optionable.

The best way to check if a stock is optionable is to display the stock's chart, right click in the chart and choose Option Quote from the shortcut menu. This will take you to the Research view and directly to the CBOE Web site bringing up quotes and option chains for the stock--if it is optionable.

Q: I played the user tip and I was unable to get audio. What am I doing wrong?

A: The first thing to check, is that you are able to get audio from other programs. To make sure these settings are correct, right-click on the speaker icon in the task bar. Select open volume controls from the popup menu and make sure all of your volumes are up and not on mute.
